Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Amman
Meet & greet at Amman’s Queen Alia International Airport, followed by a drive to your overnight hotel along the Dead Sea.
Day 2: Dead Sea Free Day
A free day at the Dead Sea beach, the Earth’s lowest point. Spend the day resting, swimming, and having mud baths, then stay overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Mukawir – Umm Ar Rasas
In the morning, head to Mukawir, a fortress on a large hill near the Dead Sea. It is home to one of Herod’s palaces; Herodium, near Bethlehem, and Alexandrium, near Jericho, are both visible from the summit of this mountain. Proceed to Umm Ar-Rasas to observe the city’s ruins, which include many churches. After that, visit Jordan’s tallest mediaeval tower, located approximately two km north of Umm Ar-Rasas and considered to have functioned as a retreat for early Christian monks. With a height of 15 m, the tower lacks an inner stairs and entrance. Return by automobile to your lodging near the Dead Sea for the night.
Day 4: Dead Sea – Petra
After breakfast, proceed to Petra, where you will begin a guided tour and explore the numerous sites of Petra, the city carved into the rose-red mountains by the Nabateans and lost to civilization until rediscovered by Swiss Burkhardt. Walk through the Siq, a small and twisting fissure between the cliffs, to reach the Treasury, the Nabatean Roman Theatre, the royal tombs, the Roman Road, the great temple, the temple of the Winged Lion, and the basin. Return to your accommodation in Wadi Musa for supper and overnight.
Day 5: Snake Monument – Jabal Haroun – Sabra
Early morning hike across Petra Siq to the Snake Monument, Aaron’s tomb on Jabal Haroun, for a panoramic view of Petra and Wadi Araba. Then walk to Wadi Sabra to witness the Nabatean old remains of Sabra, before returning to Wadi Musa.
Day 6: Petra - Wadi Rum - Aqaba
Morning transfer to Wadi Rum to discover Lawrence of Arabia’s land, passing past the famed Seven Pillars of Wisdom mentioned by Lawrence, then exploring Wadi Rum by vehicle for two hours. Visit Lawrence Springs, Al Khazali Canyon, and the inscriptions left by the Thamudic and Nabatean people centuries ago, then climb a sand dunes before driving to Aqaba on the Red Sea for supper and sleep.
Day 7: Red Sea Relaxation in Aqaba
You will be free to spend the day in Aqaba as you desire. Suggestions (optional: diving or snorkeling, relaxing on one of the gorgeous sandy beaches, or taking a glass boat tour to observe the incredible coral reefs), overnight in Aqaba.
Day 8: Aqaba - Lot’s Cave - The Pillar of Lot's Wife - Wadi Mujeb - Amman
In the morning, travel through Wadi Araba in the Jordan Valley to Lot’s cave in the little town of Zoar (modern-day Safi), view Lot’s wife pillar, and stop at the Dead Sea, the lowest spot on Earth. Then trek the bottom portion of Wadi Mujeb before returning to Amman for the night.
Day 9: Departure from Amman
Transfer to the Amman Queen Alia Airport for departure.
